Contest Rules

Exhibitors must adhere to the General Rules for the Harford Fair listed here.

Section 1: Truck & Tractor Pulls

  1. The Harford Agricultural Society will stage three days of Tractor & Truck Pulls.
  2. Tractors: $10.00 entry fee per class. Hot Tractors: $20.00 entry fee per class. Trucks: $20.00 entry fee per class.
  3. Pullers should be on the grounds at least two (2) hours before their pulling time.
  4. Monday evening tech and weigh in begin at 5:00 pm.
  5. Tuesday day session for Stock Farm Tractors, weigh in will begin at 8:00 am.
  6. Tuesday evening weigh in will begin at 5:00 pm.
  7. Wednesday evening tech and weigh in begin at 5:00 pm.
  8. Entrants will also be asked to observe rules as to the tire pressure, drawbar positions, length of legal pull, etc. One pull will be allowed on the weight machine.
  9. All tractors must be removed from the arena on the evening of the tractor pull. It is understood that the Harford Agricultural Society will not be responsible for any breakage or damage incurred to any equipment while such equipment is participating in these contests.
  10. There will be a mandatory driver's meeting 30 minutes before every pull. This Truck and Tractor Pull will be under the supervision of the Harford Agricultural Society.
  11. ALL TRACTORS LIMITED TO TWO (2) CLASSES AND MUST STAY IN THE SAME DIVISION. EXAMPLE: IF TRACTOR IS ENTERED IN STOCK, IT CANNOT PULL IN HOT STOCK AND VICE VERSA.

Harford Fair Truck Pull Rules

  1. Driver must be 18 yrs. old or 16 yrs. old with a release form signed by parent or legal guardian.
  2. All contestants at every event must sign a waiver, understanding that they are competing at their own risk and that they will not bring suit against any officials, employees, promoter, or property owner. By signing the release form, you agree to all rules set forth.
  3. Entry fee will be $20.00 per truck per class. Trucks entering the pull will pay $20 at the gate and receive a ticket. Take the ticket to the truck registration to sign in.
  4. All passengers in the truck are required to pay a gate admission fee when entering ($12.00 at the gate or $8.00 presale).
  5. All vehicles must pass a tech inspection before competing. If a vehicle is unsafe, officials have the right not to allow the vehicle to compete. TECH INSPECTION AREA CLOSES ONE HOUR PRIOR TO THE SCHEDULED START OF THE EVENT.
  6. All drivers must attend a driver's meeting held ½ hour before event begins.
  7. A vehicle cannot be registered after the drivers meeting unless approved by the track officials.
  8. No one is allowed on the track except for the track officials and contestants. Track is defined as the area within 35' in any direction of the contest boundaries, including the run off area at the end of the track.
  9. All pulls must start with a tight chain. No jerking of any kind permitted. Vehicle must remain within the boundaries of the track or the puller will be disqualified.
  10. The puller will be allowed a total of two attempts within the 75' mark to start the sled. The test puller may drop six positions.
  11. The puller must wait for the green flag from the starting flagman before starting their pull. Leaving the starting line while under the red flag will result in automatic disqualification. NO EXCEPTIONS.
  12. The driver must stop immediately upon the signal of the red flag from the flagman.
  13. Competition vehicles must be operating in a safe manner at all times within the confines of the track, pit area, and staging area. Track officials have the right to stop and disqualify any vehicle being operated in an unsafe manner.
  14. A contestant may be disqualified for either emotional or physical reasons by competition director or track officials. EXAMPLE: recklessness, drugs, or drinking alcoholic beverages. Any driver or any member of his/her pit crew consuming an intoxicating agent or drugs, prior to or during the event will be disqualified from the event. Drivers will be held responsible for the actions of their crew members.
  15. If any vehicle or driver is disqualified for any reason, no refund of entry fee or hook fee will be given.
  16. Seat belts are required and must be worn during competition.
  17. Any parts, weights, or ballast dropped from the vehicle during competition will result in disqualification.
  18. Drivers have a maximum of three (3) minutes to hook to the sled once the sled is set.
  19. Track officials will have the option to check competitors for weight and rules violations at any time during the event. All trucks must pass through the technical inspection area prior to competition. The contest will be governed by the track officials and competition director with all decisions final.
  20. The promoter or competition director reserves the right to change any safety rule(s) if they feel it is necessary. These rules shall govern the condition of all events, and by participating in these events, all participants are deemed to have complied with these rules. NO EXPRESSED OR IMPLIED WARRANTY OR SAFETY SHALL RESULT FROM THE PUBLICATIONS OF OR COMPLIANCE WITH THESE RULES/REGULATIONS. They are intended as a guide for the conduct of the sport and are in no way a guarantee against injury.

Semi-Truck & Gas Truck Pull Rules

  1. Tech and weigh in start at 5:00 pm promptly.
  2. Driver must sign up before going to tech.
  3. Driver and ONE Pit man are allowed with arm band in the pit area - NO EXCEPTIONS.
  4. Driver MUST report to tech with class that he/she signed up for BEFORE tech ends.
  5. All trucks MUST be over the scales and have officials tech truck by 9:00 pm, the only exception will be if you are in line at 9:00 pm!Tech Official WILL mark last truck in line at 9:00 pm.
  6. After tech, hoods will be taped and tape must not be removed prior to pulling. If tape is removed it will result in an automatic disqualification. Hitch heights will randomly be checked at the end of a pull.
  7. Disclaimer: ANY DRIVER ARGUING WITH TRACK OFFICIALS OR TECH OFFICIALS WILL IMMEDIATELY BE DISQUALIFIED AND ASKED TO LEAVE THE GROUNDS. ALL DECISIONS ARE FINAL!

Semi-Truck Rules

  1. Purse of $1300.00 with 6 placings ($500, $300, $200, $150, $100, $50)
  2. Driver will provide current CDL driver's license, license plate, valid proof of insurance, registration and current inspection sticker.
  3. Trucks must have operating fifth wheel. Chaining or blocking of drive axles is NOT permitted.
  4. Trucks get one hook only, with the exception of the first puller.
  5. The hitching device will be provided by the promoter of the event. This hitch will work from the fifth wheel only. Hitches will be placed in position and checked by officials just prior to the truck entering the track to pull. A truck may NOT use its' own hitching device in this class unless prior approval is received from the competition director.
  6. The truck should appear "road ready." No added weight or ballast is permitted.
  7. No ether, alcohol, water, nitrous or other liquid or combustible material may be injected into the turbo charger or any part of the air intake system. Only the fuel that was originally intended for that engine may be used.
  8. Hitch height may be checked on the track at the end of the pull.

6500 Open 4X4 Gas Truck Rules

  1. Purse of $1500.00 with four (4) placings ($700, $500, $200, $100)
  2. Truck may weigh up to a maximum of 6500 lbs.
  3. Weights may NOT extend 24" from the front of the truck.
  4. 26" hitch height maximum and 3 3/4" minimum I.D. loop required.
  5. SAFETY REQUIREMENTS: • Fire jacket and helmet required
    Fire extinguishers required
    • Kill switch required
    • Blow proof bell housing on transmission required
    • Transmission blanket required
    • Drive Line shielding required

6300 Modified 4X4 Gas Truck Rules

  1. Purse of $1000.00 with four (4) placings ($400, $300, $200, $100) Factory frames, 1 ton or less drive line, no drop boxes, single carburetor
  2. O.T. tires (no cut or bar tires)
  3. Open Exhaust
  4. Solid Suspension is allowed
  5. No inspection or registration required
  6. Weights may NOT extend 24" from the front of the truck
  7. 26" hitch height maximum and 3 3/4" minimum I.D. loop required
  8. SAFETY REQUIREMENTS:
    Helmet required
    • Fire extinguisher required
    • Kill switch required
    • Blow proof bell housing or transmission blanket required
    • Drive Line shielding recommended

6000 Enhanced 4X4 Gas Truck Rules

  1. Purse of $1000.00 with four (4) placings ($400, $300, $200, $100)
  2. Driver will provide current driver's license, license plate, valid proof of insurance, registration, and current inspection sticker. Trucks MUST be driven in
  3. Factory style receiver - Hitch cannot be more than 6" under the truck
  4. O.T. tires only, 35" height limit, no chains, studs, or spikes, etc.
  5. Truck must have a factory engine same as manufacturer of the truck. 26" hitch height maximum and 3 3/4" minimum I.D. loop required.

The following ARE permitted in this class:

  • After market bump stops (must have a minimum of 1" of travel)
  • Intake
  • Exhaust - Headers are permitted
  • Lift Kits
  • Weights are permitted, but MAY NOT extend more than 24" from front of the truck.
  • Traction Bars

The following ARE NOT permitted in this class:

  • Nitrous
  • Body Modifications - must have original sheet metal and frame

Stock 4X4 Gas Truck Rules

  1. Purse of $500 with four (4) placings ($250, $150, $75, $25)
  2. Driver will provide current driver's license, license plate, valid proof of insurance, registration, and current inspection sticker.
  3. No added weight allowed
  4. O.T. approved tires; tires may not exceed 13" sidewall to sidewall
  5. OEM engine and components for the make, model and year of the truck
  6. No aftermarket headers or open exhaust
  7. 26" hitch height maximum and 3 3/4" minimum I.D. loop required
  8. Hitch must be factory style and in the factory location.

Stock Farm Tractor Pull Rules

  1. Stock Farm Tractors - Weight Classes: 15,000 lb., 13,000 lb., 12,000 lb. Pure Stock Pace,11,000 lb., 9,000 lb., 9,000 lb. Pure Stock Pace, 7,500 lb., 6,000 lb. Pure Stock Pace. Purse of $500.00 with 5 placings ($150, 110, 90, 80, 70)
  2. Open - "Run What You Brung" - 13,000 lb. & 15,000 lb. Purse of $300.00 with 3 placings. ($150, 100, 50)
  3. All tractors limited to two (2) classes. Enter your tractor where it belongs or be disqualified. All tractors in all classes must have a 3 3/4" I.D. hook.
  4. Tractor must be stock block agricultural tractor with no visual engine modifications except air cleaners. No cubic inch limit. Engine must be original type or factory replacement. All turbochargers must be under the hood. Original style hood and grill must be in place. No electric fuel pump unless stock factory equipment. Starter must be in place. All wheels must be in place. Tractors after 1957 must have original fenders in place.
  5. Enhanced tractors are stock appearing tractors with enhancements to create more horsepower and pulling ability than similar stock
    These tractors are not allowed to enter Pure Stock Pace!
  6. For the Pure Stock Pace classes, a pace tractor will be used, operated at a speed of 3.5 mph. Pace tractor driver will not pass center of
    front wheel of pulling tractor. If pulling tractor passes driver of pace tractor, he/she will be disqualified. Pace tractor driver will start pull even with center of front wheel on pulling tractor. NO disqualification in first 75' (feet).
  7. Exhausts must: a) discharge upward with a minimum pipe length of 18" from the hood line or use a muffler. If a curved pipe is used, it
    must discharge forward unless it is stock factory equipped that does not allow it to be turned. b) or be a factory under slung exhaust system in working condition.
  8. No intercoolers or turbos allowed unless original factory equipment for that make and model being entered. Any 3" turbo allowed with
    a maximum of 3" inside measurement on the intake position of the turbo.
  9. Weight classes and the maximum tire width for that class are as follows: 6,000 lb. and 7,500 lb. (18.4x38); 9,000 lb. (20.8); 11,000 lb. (24.5); 15,000 lb. & 18,000 lb. (24.5). Rim width may not be wider than tires being used. Example: 15.5 tire on a 15 ½ rim.
    Width determined by 1977 tire date.
  10. Contest open to 2-wheel drive tractors with rubber tires. (no sharpened tires, no dual tires, no tire studs, or chains permitted). 4-wheel drive tractors allowed if wheels are disengaged.
  11. Drawbar is to be stationary in all directions with not more than 1" of movement in any one direction. Maximum height of drawbar to be 20". Length of drawbar to be no less than 24" from center of rear axle. Drawbar must be equipped with a steel hitching device not more than 1" thickness and minimum 3 3/4" diameter opening. Cross sectional thickness must be 7/8" minimum. Pulling point may not be more than 1 ½" from back edge of hitching device. PTPA suggests fastening hitching device with one 7/8" bolt or two 5/8" bolts. No top bracing except complete factory setup. No quick hitch type adapters allowed on tractors.
  12. No weight frame or weight may extend more than 24" beyond the most forward point of the tractor. All weight frames and weights must be stationary and safely secured to tractor and must not extend rearward beyond rear tires. No weights may be located in a position
    which could hinder safe operation of the tractor. No ballast on tractor seat &/or deck. No weights or brackets may exceed in width 12" beyond tires. Any ballast or external parts lost while hooked to the sled will be cause for disqualification. No weights or brackets to be closer than 8" to drawbar hook point.
  13. All tractors must have rear wheel brakes in working condition.
  14. All stock tractors are limited to 10% over factory RPM limit, with a maximum 3,000 RPM limit. If during a check of RPM's the tractor exceeds 3,000 RPM's, the tractor must pull in the hot stock tractor division. If a driver is notified after the making a pull but before
    leaving the track area of an RPM check, and an average of three consecutive checks shows RPM's in excess of 3,000 RPM's, then the tractor is disqualified from that class.
  15. Any rotating PTO shaft that cannot be stopped by the drivers hand must be shielded.
  16. For all classes except open, PTO must be operating. Stock hydraulics must be working, and must have stock OEM fuel pump. No aftermarket fuel systems.
  17. The use of torque converters, automatic shifts, etc. will be permitted on original factory equipment for make and model being entered. No slipper clutches.
  18. Contestants must be 16 and possess a valid PA driver's license.

Hot Tractor Pull Rules

1. 466 Pro Field Class - Purse of $2,000 with ten (10) placings. ($390, $340, $290, $250, $230, $220, $210, $200, $190, $180)

2. Light Super Stock Tractors - Purse of $3,500 with ten (10) placings. ($670, $570, $470, $390, $350, $330, $320, $310, $300, $290)

3. Super Farm Stock Tractors - Purse of $3,500 with ten (10) placings. ($670, $570, $470, $390, $350, $330, $320, $310, $300, $290)

Antique Tractor Pull Rules

  1. Pre-1966
  2. $10.00 entry fee for each class entered.
  3. Antique Farm Tractors Weight Classes:
    8,500 lb., 7,500 lb., 6,500 lb., 5,500 lb., 4,500 lb., 3,500 lb.
    Purse of $500.00 with 5 placings ($150, $110, $90, $80, $70)
  4. Pull is open to pre-1966 agricultural tractors with or without electronic ignition or hot coil systems.
  5. Gasoline, diesel, kerosene, and propane powered engines only
  6. No turbos (unless the model was factory equipped with a turbo)
  7. No cut tires
  8. Drawbar must be stationary in all directions, 20 inch maximum height and 18 inch minimum length from the center of the rear axle. Drawbar must be equipped with a 3 3/4 inch opening.
  9. 8500 lb. and 7500 lb. classes will have a 3.5 MPH pace tractor
    5500 lb. and 4500 lb. classes will have a 3.0 MPH pace tractor
  10. Add-on weights are allowed. They must not extend more than 11 feet from the center of the rear axle to the farthest point forward and must not extend rearward beyond the tires.
  11. No bypassing governors allowed. Factory maximum RPM only.
  12. Tractors equipped with steelwheels will pull at the end of the class
  13. Maximum tire size allowed: 8500 lb. and 7500 lb. 18 inches, 5500 lb. and 4500 lb. 16 inches

Diesel Truck Pull Rules

  8. Hitch height will randomly be checked at the end of a pull.

8000 Modified 2.5 4X4 Diesel Truck Rules

  1. Purse: $1000 with four (4) placings ($400, $300, $200, $100)
  2. Must weigh 8,000 lbs. or under with driver
  3. Factory frame
  4. Factory drive line - 1 ton axles or smaller
  5. Factory style receiver and hitch
  6. O.T. street legal tires only, 35" height limit - no chains, studs, spikes, etc.
  7. Suspension need to have 1" of travel
  8. Weight cannot extend more than 60" from the front of the front axle Hitch cannot be more than 6" under the truck
  9. 26" Hitch height maximum and 3 3/4" minimum I.D. loop required

The following ARE permitted in this class:

  • Aftermarket turbo - cannot exceed more than 2.5
  • Performance adding modules/programmers/EFI live
  • Body modifications
  • Twin CP3 Pumps
  • Traction Bars

Street Enhanced 4X4 diesel Truck Rules

  1. Purse: $1000 with four (4) placings ($400, $300, $200, $100)
  2. Driver will provide current driver's license, license plate, valid proof of insurance, registration and current inspection sticker. Trucks must be driven in
  3. Factory style receiver and hitch.
  4. O.T. street legal tires only, 35" height limit - no chains, studs, spikes, ,etc.
  5. 26" Hitch height maximum and 3 3/4" minimum I.D. loop required

The following ARE permitted in this class:

Stock 4X4 Diesel Truck Rules

  1. Purse: $500 with four (4) placings ($250, $150, $75, $25)
  2. This is a stock class. If you intend to pull in this class, your truck should not look like a truck set up to pull transfer sleds.
  3. We are looking for factory appearing trucks.
  4. Driver will provide current driver's license, license plate, valid proof of insurance, registration, and current inspection sticker.
  5. No engine, body, drive train or suspension modifications
  6. Factory style receiver in factory location
  7. O.T. street legal tires only, 35" height limit - no chains, studs, spikes, etc.
  8. 26" Hitch height maximum and 3 3/4" minimum I.D. loop required.

The following ARE NOT permitted in this class:

  • Traction bars
  • Aftermarket bump stops
  • Water methanol
  • Nitrous
  • Body modifications
  • Performance adding modules/programmers/EFI live *see below
